MINUTES OF THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS' MEETING HELD AT MONTICELLO, UTAH ON MAY 4, 1959 at 10 A. M. Meeting opened with all Commissioners and Clerk present.
Routine work with the road men was conducted. Those reporting were Roy Wood, George Barry and David Guy-mon.
David Guymon reported that Wilbur Laws needed a cattle guard where the County road goes through his place, goes through his place at the bottom of Recapture. Costs were discussed, and as this is privately owned land, it was decided that the County would stand the cost of $250.00 and installation, while Mr. Laws is to pay the balance of $125.00,
COUNTY ATTORNEY RENDERS OPINION ON PERSONAL PROPERTY TAXES IN DISPUTED AREA OF GRAND AND SAN JUAN COUNTIES
The County Assessor, Ralph Burtenshaw, along with deputies Ray Redd and Wilbur Laws, were present to dis-cuss the situation in assessing taxes in the disputed area of Grand and San Juan Counties. The County Attor-ney was called in to review the matter and reported on the matter that is now in litigation. His opinion was that the taxes of the M. G. M. Company in Twp. 26 S, R 21 East should be paid in San Juan County, and they must furnish a bond in the amount of taxes, or personal property should be sold to cover the taxes. The company claims they have already paid the taxes in Grand County.
A. B. SMITH MAKES APPLICATION FOR CABARET LICENSE FOR MONTEZUMA CREEK
Mr. A. B. Smith was present to make application for a cabaret license for Montezuma Creek, where he is constructing a shopping center. A motion was made by Commissioner Hazleton, seconded by Commissioner Bar-tell, and unanimously carried, that Mr. Smith be granted a cabaret license upon his qualifying with a bond and license fee. The Sheriff was consulted before making the request.
COUNTY AGENT TO PURCHASE ADDING MACHINE
Upon application of Rell Argyle to purchase an adding machine for the extension out of their present budget a motion was made by Commissioner Hazleton, seconded by Commissioner Bartell, and unanimously carried, that the County Agent be given permission to purchase a hand operated adding machine for the price of $130.00, and to be within his yearly budget.
LANG COMPANY WILL FURNISH ROLLER ON RENTAL BASIS FOR ANY DESIRED PERIOD OF TIME
Wally Anderson, representative for the Lang Company was present and stated that Lang Company would furnish a road roller on a rental basis for any desired period of time. The Lang Company will maintain the machine while it is being rented.
DELEGATION FROM CEDAR POINT PRESENT ROAD PROBLEMS.
A delegation from Cedar Point was present to further discuss road problems in their area. Wednesday morning was the time set for the Commissioners and road supervisors to go over the roads and investigate the gravel deposits in that area.
CITIES TO RECEIVE AIRPORT MONIES
Upon motion of the City of Blanding, a motion was made by Commissioner Bartell, seconded by Commissioner Hazleton, and unanimously carried, that the airport money be paid to the City of Monticello and City of Blanding for the year 1958. The payment for 1959 to be made before the end of the year.
CITY COUNCILMEN OF BLANDING PRESENT TO DISCUSS VARIOUS PROBLEMS
Marvin Lyman, Wm. Ervin Palmer, David Guymon, Norman Nielson, and Clerk Francis Nielson, were present to discuss matters concerning their, city. The first matter to be discussed was the Health Program and the ad-
visability of establishing a clinic in Blanding. Money prospects were discussed and the members of the Town Board were invited to be in attendance at the regular meeting of the Board of County Commissioners on May llth. At which time members of the State Board of Health will be present to discuss the new Health Program to go into effect July 1, 1959.
The Commissioners explained that due to increased costs of the construction of the new County Hospital, the budget is limited for this year, but that they can incorporate into next year's budget an amount for a medical clinic for Blanding.
In regards to an inquiry concerning Airport Money, they were informed that the money collected in 1958 will be allocated to Blanding and Monticello. The motion was made by Commissioner Hazleton, seconded by Commission-er Bartell, and unanimously carried, that the Auditor pay in equal shares the money that is now in the Air Port fund to the towns of Blanding and Monticello.
The road program was discussed as to the best means of incorporating the road work in the cities with the county program.
The representatives further inquired if San Juan County would consider consolidating Peace Officers with the City of Blanding. The matter will be taken under advisement.
COUNTY TO TRY FOR ROAD SCHOOL IN 1960
The Clerk was instructed to make application to have the annual road school held in San Juan County in the year 1960.
