MINUTES OF THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS' MEETING HELD IN REGULAR SESSION ON TUESDAY, THE 22nd DAY OF JULY, 1969

Commissioner Black was excused as he was on vacation. Meeting opened at 10:00 0'Clock A. M. with Commissioner Hazleton in the Chair,

MINUTES OF THE PREVIOUS MEETING WERE READ AND APPROVED. Motion for approval was made by Commissioner Young, seconded by Commissioner Hazleton, and carried unanimously.

WEED & RODENT MATTERS DISCUSSED

Verle Bell, County Weed & Rodent man, met with the Commissioner to discuss the problem of noxious weeds on the sides of State Highways.

The Commissioners informed Mr. Bell that they would contact Mr. Jim Deaton and have his department get in touch with our County man and have the noxious weed problem taken care of.

AIRPORT LOCATION DISCUSSED

Fern Frost met with the Commission and gave her views on an Airport location between Grand and San Juan Counties. The Commission informed Mrs. Frost that this has been considered and discussed at previous occasions and our County is interested in this development.

COUNTY-OWNED HOUSE: DELINQUENT RENT

and recently sold to Nancy Cahoon, The County-owned house which has been occupied by Duane Carlson, was the subject of discussion due to the

fact that no rent has been received from this unit for 2 1/2 years.

Commissioner Young recommended that the Commission notify the Hospital Board to reimburse the County for

the amount of rent due, have Mr. Carlson reimburse the County for the delinquent rent, or suspend Mr.

Carlson from his job.

Final action on this matter will be taken when a full Board of Commissioners is present.

RECREATION MATTERS - LASAL RECREATION AREA REPAIRS NEEDED

Marvin Lindquist met with the Commission to inform them of a C.O.D. order of recreation equipment he had ordered to replace equipment that was destroyed in a recent accident.

Mr. Lindquist also reported on the worn & damaged condition of the cement slab at La Sal. Commissioner Young stated that he would give Mr. Lindquist some information and assistance on the repairs of the slab there.

Commissioner YOung and Anne Porter discussed arrangements for the County Fair. Commissioner Young cautioned Anne to inform the Fair Board to work to produce a Fair that will attract people, as this is definitely a trial arrangement this year.

SHERIFF REPORTS ON MEETING TO BE HELD AT TOWAOC JULY 23rd

Sheriff Musselman reported that he was scheduled to meet in Towaoc the following morning to discuss with the Ute Tribe participation in the expense of policing White Mesa area. Sheriff Musselman stated that he desired a menber of the Commission to accompany him at this meeting.

NOTICE TO CONTRACTORS - HIGHWAY #95 (12.724 mi.)

Notice was received from the Utah State Department of Highways that bids will be opened on Tuesday, August 12, 1969 at 2:00 P. M. for construction of a Road Mix Bituminous Surfaced Highway in San Juan County, the same being that section of State Road No. 95 from Atomic Rock to the Junction with State Road #261. 12.724 miles. Notice received from the office of Henry C. Hellend.

CORRESPONDENCE RECEIVED

A copy of a letter to DeVon Hurst, Water Conservancy District Manager, from the Oljato Chapter, requesting that the Water District work on a project to draw water from the San Juan river to the Monument Valley area was received.

Notice of a marked trail for small motorcycles and trail bikes which has been developed on B.L.M. admin-istered land about 4 miles east of Moab was received. As the formal opening ceremony was to be held at 6:00 P. M. July 22nd, Commissioner Young stated that he would attempt to represent the County at this function.

An Annual Report on the Status of County Federal-Aid Secondary Funds was received from the Utah State Department of Highways.

RECREATION FUND:

Suezanne Nielson Salary for June, 1969. 150.00

Fielding Music Repairing Intercom system - Monticello Pool 36.80
