MINUTES OF THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS' MEETING HELD IN REGULAR SESSION ON MONDAY, THE 19th DAY OF MAY, 1969

PRESENT: Marion H. Hazleton, Chairman Calvin Black, Member

Clytie Barber, Clerk Commissioner Young was excused as he was in Idaho Falls attending Public Lands meeting.

Meeting opened at 10:00 O'clock A. M. with Commissioner Hazleton in the Chair.

MINUTES OF THE PREVIOUS MEETING WERE READ AND APPROVED. M otion for approval was made by Commissioner Black, seconded by Commissioner Hazleton and carried unanimously.

BEER LICENSE - CHANGE OF LOCATION DENIED

John B. Lester met with the Commission to request a change of location for his dispensing of Beer. He stated that he desired to discontinue a Bar at the Navajo Trails Tavern and have a package set-up only at the Conoco Station which is approximately 2 blocks west on the Highway.

The Commission stated that they would deny this request as they did not want to start licensing Service Stations to sell beer. The County Attorney was consulted before the foregoing action was taken.

CUSTODIAN FOR COURT HOUSE - APPLICATIONS RECEIVED

Mr. Don Christensen and Mr. Harold Beeson have submitted applications for the Custodian job at the County Courthouse.

STORE AT MEXICAN HAT SOLD - NEW OWNER APPLIES FOR BEER LICENSE

Mr. Myron Ferree met with the Commission and informed them that he had sold his properties in Mexican Hat to Mr. Thomas J. Knight. Mr. Knight then informed the Commission that he would like to apply for a Beer License and sell beer at the Mexican Hat store. Mr. Knight was instructed to make application for a license and, if approved by the Sheriff, the License would be issued upon his furnishing the re-quired Bond and payment of the Beer License fee.

CONTRACT RENEWED WITH ARMY ON MISSILE FIRINGS

After reviewing Contract No. DAAD07-69-C-0236 for delivery of evacuation notices with the Department of The Army, Commissioner Black made the motion that Chairman Hazleton be authorized to sign the contract on behalf of the County. The motion was seconded by Commissioner Hazleton and carried unanimously.

QUIT CLAIM DEED SIGNED RELEASING AIRPORT PATENT NEAR MOAB

A letter was received from the Bureau of Land Management regarding the airport patent near Moab, described as follows:

T. 27 S., R. 22 E., SLM, Utah

Sec. 1, lots 2, 3, SW1/4NE1/4, SE1/4 T. 27 S., R 23 E., SLM, Utah

Sec. 6, lots 4, 5. Totaling 357.88 acres.

A Quit Claim Deed releasing said land was enclosed for the County Clerks signature.

Commissioner Black made the motion that Clytie Barber, San Juan County Clerk be authorized to sign the Quit Claim Deed on behalf of the County. The motion was seconded by Commissioner Hazleton and carried unanimously.

INTERAGENCY MEETING TO BE HELD AT LAKE POWELL

Commissioner Black reported on the comming Interagency Meeting to be held at Lake Powell, June 27 and 28. The Clerk was instructed to send invitations for the meeting.

PARTS AND GASOLINE APPROVED FROM P & I FUND

Chauncey Black, Deputy Sheriff was present and requested that he be authorized to sign for parts and gasoline for a transient. The Commissioners authorized the parts and gasoline but said the County would not pay for the labor on installing the parts.

MERIT SYSTEM RATING FOR CIVIL DEFENSE SECRETARY

Joe Berry, Civil Defense Director was present to discuss the Merit System Rating for his secretary. He said that although his secretary had a Civil Service Rating that she would have to take a test to qualify for Merit System. The Commissioners informed Mr. Berry that arrangements for the test could be made through the Employment Agency in Moab and to instruct his secretary to take the test as soon as possible.

PAYMENT MADE ON SAGA OF SAN JUAN

Pearl Butt, a representative of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers, was present to report that the DUP had taken in $200.00 on the sale of Saga of San Juan books and she would turn the same in to the Treasurer this date.

2P.M. MEETING WITH CIVIL DEFENSE OFFICIALS

(St. Director) (Shelter Planning Dept.) (Area Coordinator) General C. C. Thorstensen , Einar Johnson and Mr. Batemen met with the Commission and County Civil

Defense Director and made the presentation as required by the Civil Defense rules. General Thorstensen stated that a letter if intent from the Commission was necessary if San Juan County is going to participate in the program. He also stated Ordinances or Resolutions should be on Record as a guide for future officials.
