MINUTES OF THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONER'S MEETING HELD AT MONTICELLO, UTAH ON MONDAY JUNE 15,1959 10 A.M. Meeting opened with all Commissioners and. Deputy Clerk present. REPRESENTATIVE OF RECREATION COMMITTEE MEETS WITH COMMISSIONERS

Bill Halls on behalf of the Recreation Committee met with commissioners regarding ownership of Monticello Swimming Pool, and quoting Mr. Halls, the committee doesn't want to take any action on activities until an ownership decision is reached. Commissioner Walton was of the opinion that somewhere in the City of Monticello minutes there might be an entry whereby they might assume the operation responsibility of the pool, but Mr. Chandler, city manager, reports that he found no minute entry to that effect, in the minutes dating from August 1955 forward. Commissioner Hazleton is to meet with the City Council at their next meeting and discuss the problem at hand and find out if the city would consider taking over ownership of the pool through proper proceedings.

SALES TAX ORDINANCE TO BE PASSED

San Juan County Commissioners agreed to pass the local option sales tax ordinance. County attorney to prepare ordinance for county. Motion was made by Commissioner Bartell that county accept sales tax as presented and as quickly as can be arranged, the contract to be completed and sent in, motion seconded by commissioner Hazleton.

CIVIL DEFENSE MEETING AT PRICE, UTAH

Commissioner Hazleton will attend the Civil Defense meeting to be held in Price, Utah, on June 18, 7:oo P.M. Mr. Higgins, State Director of Civil Defense and Major Cleveland will be in attendance at meetings. Such subjects as Surplus Property, Contributions Program, County Plans, Continuity of Government in Emer-gency should be discussed, and the State Plan designates responsibility into the channels of local govern-ment. Homer Chandler, City Manager of Monticello, Utah reported to the commissioners that he thought a representative from their group would attend the meeting. A copy of the letter received from the Chair-man of the Civil Defense Committee by the County Commissioners was forwarded to Francis D. Nielson, City Clerk of Blanding, inviting their co-operation in attending the meeting.

QUOTATION ACCEPTED ON WATER TANK

Young's Machine Company, Monticello, Utah submitted the following quotation on a water tank:

1500 gal. oval shape water tank complete with inlet and outlet openings but less valve.

Price - F. 0. B. Monticello, Utah----------------- $360.00

A motion was made by Commissioner Hazleton that we accept bid in the amount of $360.00 as quoted, seconded by Commissioner Bartell and carried.

BUILDING INSPECTOR IN SOUTHERN PART OF COUNTY TO BE RELEASED

It was the decision of San Juan County commissioners that E. A. Black be released as building inspector in the southern part of the county . Being a contractor in competition with other contract plumbers it has been deemed unfair for him to continue in this capacity of builder inspector. Clerk to notify Mr. Black of termination.

SEALED BIDS RECEIVED ON COUNTY LAND ADVERTISED FOR SALE

This being the day and hour to receive sealed bids on land advertised for sale, located in the southeast part of Monticello (Parcel A and Parcel B) - description recorded in May 25, 1959 commissioner minutes, J.M Bailey being present with a protest, claims to have made application accompanied by a check to the county several years ago, but there is no minute entry in the commissioner minutes regarding any such transaction. Mr. Bailey claims that county couldn't issue a deed at the time, his check was returned to him, and he claims he has had possession of the land since and should therefore be given priority in consideration, he made an oral bid of $50.00. Pearl Butt was present to substantiate Mr. Bailey's protest.

Harold Frost's bid of $200.00 will be the one considered by the commissioners and a deed will be issued to him.

SALARY AGREED UPON FOR BOOK MOBILE INDEXING

A motion by Commissioner Hazleton to accept and pay the Salary recommended by the State Library Board in favor of Hugh J. Barnes amounting to $250.00 for services rendered in indexing the Book Mobile Unit, second-ed by Commissioner Bartell, and carried.

LETTER TO BE SENT TO U. S. REPRESENTATIVE

George C. Newell had prepared a letter to be sent to Henry Aldous Dixon, U. S. Representative, asking for support in obtaining Federal funds for construction of a road on the Manti-LaSal National Forest, west of Monticello, Utah.

Officials probably concerned are : County Recorder, County Treasurer, County Assessor, County Attorney & abstractor Corless Chapman.
